The iconic RX-78-2 Gundam of Amuro Ray from the first ever Mobile Suit Gundam anime series re-released as a version 2.0 from the Master Grade line of Bandai.
Where would we be had this iconic franchise not been released? Even Macross co-creator, Shoji Kawamori, said that he was inspired by the release of Mobile Suit Gundam. Definitely nowhere... as with the $billion dollar a year industry spurred by the franchise. And when you think about it, its not just the plamodel kits, but also the guys who make the paints, the tools and other consumables related to the Gunpla hobby. I shudder at the thought.
When you think about it, not only does the Gundam franchise provide us with entertainment and cherished childhood memories that we take with us to adulthood, but it also provides jobs and secures their families the means to put food on their table... so in short, don't buy Bootleg *snicker*
Despite being the oldest design in the franchise, the RX-78-2 seems to hold the distinction of being the flag ship design for every series released by Bandai. As evidenced by the recently released Real Grade line of model kits by Bandai.
