Make sure to stir the paint in its container first before using to ensure the paint components are evenly mixed.
For airbrushing Humbrol recommends a ratio of 1 to 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner (1~2 paint:1 thinner). Some scale modelers have recommended White Spirit and Turpentine as a thinner alternative, please experiment on this before using.
Enamel Gloss Paints can dry in 1 - 2 hours, while their Matt and Satin paints dry in 20-40 minutes. Gloss, Matt and Satin paints fully dry in 24 hours, Metallic paints however fully dry in approx 10 days. Paint drying time will be affected by the amount of thinner placed as well as the temperature and humidity of your environment.
For hand brushing, Quick Kits has a great tutorial on handbrushing scale models w/ Humbrol Enamels. In this video a ratio of 6~7 parts paint to 1 part thinner (6~7paint:1thinner) is used to leave a smooth finish on the surface of the scale model without the presence of any brush marks.
Always paint in a well ventilated area, do not inhale the fumes or allow others around you to do so. It is highly recommended to wear a respirator mask to prevent inhaling the paint fumes and use a painting booth that will expel the paint fumes safely.
