From the UC Hard Graph line of model kits by Bandai was the Zeon Mobile Scout set that was released in 2006. This is a 1/35 scale model kit that comes with a Wappa bike-like hover craft that can fit 1 person sitting. The kit also comes with another figure in a standing position with binoculars on a tripod. This particular unit was used during the One Year War when Zeon forces descended on Earth for an invasion.
The primary role of the scout in a mechanized army is reconnaissance. To forge ahead to look for either paths that the main force can pass through, scout the terrain ahead, or worse, to seek the location of the enemy. Although the scout looks like he is in a suicide mission because he acts as the spearhead of the main force he is in fact well reinforced (usually) by being able to call an airstrike or artillery whenever he meets any resistance. Attributes that scouts will usually need to complete their mission of gathering information is speed, stealth and good communcations with the main force.
A good example of the role of a scout was with the Pathfinders of the Airborne during the D-Day drop in Normandy
