Haven't seen ZZ Gundam yet so can't really comment on this. I have to say though, from an engineering standpoint, its kinda weird to use a mobile suit as a reconnaissance platform. Mobile suits are known to be bulky and cumbersome. If you were doing reconnaissance you'd probably want something light and fast. Then again, maybe the designers, aside from wanting to make it look cool, were thinking of unit survivability. But that's just me over analyzing again *snicker*

True to its reconnaissance roots, the EWAC Zack is armed only with a Zaku Machinegun while its body is littered with electronic equipment. Such as the conspicuous Radome on its back, grand sensor antenna on its crotch, active laser sensor on its forehead and data pods at its back. It also comes equipped with external propellant tanks, so I'm guessing this is for long range reconnaissance.
