Dipping the parts in a cup of detergent water and leaving it for a day to soak worked well for me. This was done to remove the heavy tape residue that was caused by the botched painting attempt resulting in an over spray that was absorbed by the tape and was stuck deeply to the part.
Picture above is the part left over, the tape residue can be clearly seen as the detergent water turned it white. It was also easily removed by just rubbing it off.
Here's the part with the tape residue removed. Don't mind the white streak on the part, that's not tape residue but rather just the sun glinting off the part. I was working outside during my lunch break because I wanted some good lighting so that I could be sure that I completely removed all the residue on the part. After all the residue is removed, I'll sand off the part again to remove the paint burrs left over by the botched painting job.
