Update 01/29/2010: Posted a few days ago at the Bandai Hobby Site, looks like this has a name already. VF-27 Lucifer Normal Type

1/72 VF-27 Lucifer Normal Type : Cannon Fodder version

Just saw this at Amiami’s site. Scheduled for release next year by February 2010 is a 1/72 model kit of the cannon fodder variant of the VF-27. No official title yet as to what its being called, so I’m just calling it the cannon fodder variant. Pilots of this version, as seen in the Macross Frontier series, are the Antares Squadron of the Macross Galaxy and Grace O’Connor.

As of now the only obvious difference (aside from the color scheme) I’m seeing between this unit and the VF-27 Lucifer of Antares Squadron Leader Brera Stern is the design of the head. No two horn like antenna’s at the ends.

Retail price of this is 5,500 yen but Amiami has theirs for pre-order at 3,980 yen.

I like the VF-27 design and I really like the colours of the mass production type here. It has a more militaristic feel to it because of the muted green colour.

I’m planning on getting into Bandai’s 1/72 Macross Frontier model kits. I really like the mecha designs of the series and the 1/72 kits look great.

My first Bandai kit was VF-25G, compared to the Gundam kits it was quite laborious to build. But it was worth it given the quality of the design of Shoji Kawamori. :D

I love Shoji Kawamori’s mecha designs! The 1/72 VF kits seem very detailed and the articulation looks pretty good. I’m just happy to see a well designed transformable VF in model kit form. :)

Yeah I too was amazed that the macross frontier model kits of Bandai can transform. I guess it really helps that Kawamori-sama uses Lego blocks during this design phase because from the very beginning he can already work out the transformation kinks and not have to rely on anime magic to make things work.

Wow, I never knew about his penchant for Legos. :)

I wonder if the bit of plastic in the beam rifle depicting the energy charge for firing is similar to the plastic bits used to depict the energy in the fin funnels of the MG Hi-Nu Gundam.

Looks like it. Hi Nu Gundam is actually one of my most favorite Gundam designs. Something I have in my Gundam wishlist…hehehe
