X-Y Base Part VI

Mini Milling Machine

I finished building the Z axis of the frame and attached the mini router but after this step I realized that there is a showstopper problem that has to be resolved. The major problem is that the there is some major play between the arm and the drawer slide whenever a perpendicular force is directed against the Z axis. In short that mini router is going to be pushed back because the arm isn't strong enough to hold back against the force of the work piece pushing against it.

Thinking of a way now to stiffen the arm and to prevent it from swinging. Above is a picture of the mini router resting against the vise. Still haven't affixed the X-Y axis to the frame though because of the said problem encountered.

Here is a crude nut and bolt attached to the drawer slide. The purpose of this is to make "fine" movements in the Z axis when adjusting the cutting depth of the mini router on the workpiece. Part V of this build could be found here.
