1/48 Arii Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat Completed Pics
Finished building this 1/48 Arii Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat together with the 1/48 F4U-1A Corsair. By doing this I was able to save on some paint by painting the dark blue parts of this together. I wasn't disappointed with this build as I was looking for a simple relax build with a scale model kit without much parts.
Loved this kit because of the simplicity and the recessed panel lines. Not that I'm saying that complicated kits are tiresome to build, but rather I just wanted a quick build kit in this point in time.
I finished this in about a weeks time, but if I lump it all together, I think it would be about 3 days of continuous building. Factors that caused the delay were mainly paint availability and the rainy weather.
For the Navy Blue part (the dark part) I mixed 80% bosny tivoli blue with 20% bosny flat black. Paint was then applied by means of my trusty Badger 250-2 airbrush connected to an air tank. For the medium blue parts I used Pylox precaution blue, I don't see this color anymore in hardware stores so I'm assuming that Nippon paints already discontinued it. For the interior green parts I used Pylox Lazer Refrigerator Green. For the white parts I used Bosny white. To finish it off I coated it with some Bosny Dull Lacquer.
For the weathering, I used my wife's old eye shadow kit. Discovered this method when I was building the Revell 1/48 Hind. Sadly however, trying to use the white eye shadow to create weathering effects didn't quite go as expected. Lesson learned on this endeavor.
To recreate the radio antenna wires, I stretched out some old plastic sprues by means of this method.
After this kit I'll be working on the Revell 1/48 F-105G Thunderchief “Wild Weasel”, but I have say that working on the Corsair and this kit has left an itch in me that can only be scratched by building another World War II kit.
