Just playing around with some camera settings again in order to take some test shots. This time the subject I used was the 1/60 YF-21 and 1/60 YF-19 by Yamato Toys. Both variable fighters were featured in the Macross Plus OVA that came out in the early 90's. The YF-21 was piloted by Guld Goa Bowman while the YF-19 was piloted by Isamu Dyson. Both fighters were pitted against one another to see who would be the new frontline fighter for the UN Spacy that would replace the aging VF-11.

The YF-21 always seemed to have the upper hand on paper because of the Brainwave interface it had that allowed the pilot to control the fighter by thought alone.

In the hands of hotshot pilot Isamu Dyson however, they were able to match the performance of the YF-21 during testing.

Compared to the venerable VF-1, the YF-19 & YF-21 were towering behemoths.

What added the love triangle angle that is staple to all Macross anime's was the arrival of Isamu Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman's childhood female friend Myung Fang Lone into the plotline.

Aside from the great animation, what made Macross Plus iconic in stature was the sound track by Yoko Kanno. This would pave the way for a number of collaborations between Yoko Kanno and Macross' Shoji Kawamori. The latest of which of course was the epic sound track for the Macross Frontier series.

I always loved the intro dedication of the first episode where it said: Dedicated to All Pioneers. But what sent goose bumps down my spine was the dedication of the 4th episode of the OVA: Dedicated to You. Our Future Pioneers
