We got this for our son a while back along with some other Metal Heroes Series toys from Hasbro's Transformers Line. The first time I saw this I was prejudiced to think that no one in his right mind would enjoy this toy. Then when I saw my son using his imagination in playing with his trailer truck toy and make believing that it was Optimus Prime, I was convinced that Hasbro did a good thing with this release.
This particular line of Transformer Toys by Hasbro does not transform, what they have underneath is an emblem of the Transformer in robot mode's likeness instead. Its supposed to be played by letting the toy stand on its rear when recreating "robot mode"
True enough it did not disappoint for my son. Who needs a transforming toy when you can use your imagination? Plus the fact that he has a hard time playing with transforming toys at his age so this will suit him just fine. This toy is ideal for ages 3 years and above. No small parts that can accidentally be swallowed. You have to take caution of course that the child does not try to swallow the toy whole.
For an adult collector, the toy is quite small but what it has going for itself is its uncanny resemblance to the vehicle mode of the Transformer robot. For me it was like collecting those small diecast car toys made popular by Matchbox and Tomica all over again. Its really a great gateway toy for kids that want to start early in the Transformers series. Looks like I'm going to start collecting some more of this because of my son's affinity for them.
