Hobby Link Japan posted a while ago that they are offering cheap FedEx shipping that is comparable in price (or even lesser) to EMS shipping. In line with that they will be offering a 20% discount on EMS shipping till June 30, 2010.
That's one of the benefits of having a huge store like HLJ. Because they can ask for discounts from couriers such as FedEx because of the bulk orders that they can offer. I have a pilot friend who says that he is given a 50% discount by FedEx because of his affiliation with them. So you can just imagine the cost savings and earning potential. Its no secret that online stores make money from the shipping and handling fees that they charge.
Aside from discounts, shipping price is one of the weapons wielded by the online stores to gain market share in this otherwise tight but thriving market niche.
So why would you prefer this shipping method?, for me its primarily because of the security and the peace of mind that my package won't be lost and second is because of the speed. Yep, you can go nuts waiting for your package to arrive... harharhar
