Macross 7

Macross 7 is the official tv series sequel to the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross created by Studio Nue and Shoji Kawamori. It tells the story of a Human and Zentradi colonization fleet, the Macross 7.

Macross 7 is the seventh class of Macross ships that are able to carry more than a million people. They live in a dome like structure that opens to reflect sunlight and the stars in and closes to protect the citizens during a battle. Macross 7’s misssion is to head towards the center of the Galaxy in search of a habitable planet to colonize.

Back in the original series, after the devastation caused by the war between the Zentradi’s and Humans, it was determined by the survivors that the culture of both races must be preserved and this can only be done by exploring the universe and colonizing livable planets.

It is set in the year 2045, 35 years after the original Macross SDF1 was launched. Macross 7 was launched in 2038 they have already been 7 years in their expedition when the events of the series unfold. The main antagonist in the series is the Protodevlin, an alien race that needs to consume human and zentradi spiritia (life force) in order to survive. The victims usually don’t die but are left in a comatose state.

During the course of the series it was found out that the protodevlin dwell in bodies created by the Protoculture. An ancient race that humans and zentradi descended from. These bodies created by the protoculture were known as “Evil.” Because of their need to consume Spiritia in order to survive they almost depleted the entire galaxy of life. It was only because of a mysterious force known as the Anima Spiritia, that the Protoculture race used against them, that the protodevlin were defeated and entombed in the 4th planet of the Varauta system.

Some of the cast from the original SDF Macross series are carried over to Macross 7. These are Macross Ace Pilot, Maximillian “Max” Jenius who is captain of Macross 7 and his estranged wife, Miria Jenius who was an ace pilot of the Zentradi and now Mayor of City 7. Exsedol Folmo, former chief advisor of the Zentradi Armada is also in the series as chief adviser to Max.

In Macross Universe Chronology this is a few years after Macross Plus. The series ran from October 16, 1994 to September 24, 1995 and had a total of 49 episodes.
