Macross Zero

Just saw this at HLJ’s website. Announcement for a special sale on certain Yamato products. If you are a Macross fan (like I am) you’ll see a lot of the very popular Perfect Transformation 1/60 Macross VF’s with slashed prices. 30% off the shelf price is what I’m seeing.

Over Drive Inc's Macross Toy SaleThe Yamato Toy’s sale at Over-Drive-Inc doesn’t seem to be over yet as the 1/60 scale toy series that they had put up on sale last May is still on going. That’s where I was able to buy my 1/60 Hikaru Ichijo VF-1S DYRL version for only $73.99. Was mightily pleased by it and thanks to EMS shipping got it quickly.

Hurry and come and get yours while stocks are still available. Over Drive Inc even went so far as to say that with their ongoing sale, it would be cheaper to buy a 1/60 VF-1 and a Super Pack kit separately than to buy one VF-1 complete with Super Packs already.

I really enjoyed watching the Plamo Tsukurou (Constructing Plastic Models) tv series posted on youtube, one episode had the assembly of Roy Fokker’s VF-0S from Macross Zero. The kit built was a 1/72 scale VF-0S Phoenix (Fighter Mode) made by Hasegawa. Even without understanding Japanese that much I think you can still understand a bit what’s going on. The master modeller in this episode was Noboyuki Sakurai. Sakurai-san’s work has been featured in Hobby magazines and he specializes in the Valkyries of Macross.

Part I is here:

10 Things to get you started on MacrossWas having a discussion with a friend who loved anime and our topic touched on Macross Frontier. She had never watched any of the Macross series nor movies before but she heard that Macross Frontier was a great anime. A diehard fan like me would just love to get another one into our fold, our discussion however was cut short before I could continue with my discourse on the wonders of Macross.

I saw this little interruption as a fortuitous event, since I could have ample time to better arm myself with factoids to show her what Macross is all about without giving up much in terms of plot elements to spoil it for the first time fan that she was. I am not saying that this list is perfect, but for me this is what made Macross great and worth watching

Where was Sheryl's Earring Found? In Macross Frontier, the stage for the love triangle between Alto Saotome, Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee was set with the final side of the triangle being established between Alto and Sheryl in episode 5 “Star Date” of Macross Frontier.

It started with Sheryl losing one of her precious earrings during her first concert performance in episode 1 while Alto was carrying her in flight. A review of the concert tapes by Sheryl in episode 2 made her realize that the lost earring had fallen into Alto’s Ex Gear. Seeking him out, she was able to get him to look for the earring in the “Star Date” episode.

I guess one of the cool things that made Macross great, aside from the music, the mecha, the characters and the awesome plot and graphics was the Macross Missile Massacre. More popularly called by fans as the Itano Circus because it was created by Ichiro Itano.
