Update (03/26/2010): Translated Construction Manual can be found here.
Update (03/07/2010): Hobby Search has a great review put up of the 1/48 RX 78-2
Update (02/19/2010): Looks like the product page of this is up already at the Bandai 30th anniversary site. Release date was listed as 03/06/2010. This behemoth is listed to be 375 mm tall.
Quite interesting too that it states there that no tools are required to build it since the parts come easily off the runners (refer to “point 1″). But there is this tool included known as the “double separator” to help release the parts from the runners (refer to “point 5″). Then there is the patent pending “click part” for the joints of the arms and leg to help improve the posing of the model kit.
Box shot was also posted at the page.

Talk about dying and going to Gundam Heaven. This was posted in Amiami’s English website. An honest to goodness 1/48 RX-78-2 Gundam in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Gundam Model kits. No release date was given but the pre-order price was set as 5,680 yen with already 25% knocked off from its shelf price. It says however on Amiami that the kit is already available. Confusing really. I can just bet that the price of shipping of this could even equal or surpass its selling price given the size of the model kit.

Aside from Amiami, HLJ also has this for pre-order at 7800 yen
Pictures posted are marked as being of a prototype, so the actual model kit’s appearance could differ from the production version.

I’m envious of all those who are buying this, all I can do is wish them Good Luck in fitting it in their display cabinets.

Here’s a picture of it with the HG Gundam Ver G30th for perspective.

Hi. I discovered your Blog searching info about this Gunpla. I got images sugething that the box size is the same of the PG Gundam Wing (320×590x115mm)
I think (and I hope =P) this kit is not going to be very heavy, because is not a PG or MG and don“t have a lot of pieces, but who knows the 1/24 RX-78 had 75cm tall and had a weight of 6 kg so this should weigh 3 to 3.5 kg (I really hope this kit have a weight of 2 kg)
You have a Great Blog!! (The mine is under construction)
PS. Sorry my bad English
Thanks Elshiem!
Yeah, shipment cost will be very key when buying this kit
I’m a fan of the RX-78-2 and I would love to have this model but the price of shipping it would be probably too much for me.
