Update (01/18/2009): Slight Erratum, Cyan red in the color guide is actually “shine” red or MR. Color C79
Gundam ZZ’s Elpeo Puru’s Qubeley has been given the Master Grade treatment by Bandai and was released just recently last month. I can’t really say much about Elpeo Puru since I haven’t watched Gundam ZZ yet. The first time I saw the Qubeley was in Gundam Zeta wherein it was piloted by Haman Karn of the Neo-Zeon.
From my understanding of the Qubeley, is that its instrumentation is modified to take into effect the abilities of New Types. That’s why Haman Karn and other cyber new types are very adept in piloting it. Personally though I don’t like the design of the Qubeley. I find it too bug like. I know that the Japanese are fond of bugs, with kids and adults taking them as pets. That exposure during childhood is probably why there is a hint of bug anatomy in some mecha design. In Japan there seems to be a rather lucrative market in bug collecting.
To illustrate further the love of the Japanese for bugs, I’ll just leave it up to Japanese Icon: Hard G*ay…hehehe
If after the first part you start laughing at the scenes already, your on your way to appreciating Japanese culture and humor…hahaha
Whoa, I think we deviated a bit there from what this post was intended to be, anyway, here’s the translated color guide with the original taken from Hobby Search’s product page of the Qubeley Mk II. Click on the image below to enlarge.

I really like the design of the Qubeley, though I haven’t watched Gundam ZZ yet so I don’t know much about the fiction behind the MS. Thanks for the colour guide translation!
Your Welcome DW Chun. I haven’t watched ZZ either, only till Zeta Gundam. I didn’t really like the storyline of Zeta, found it too immature. But I did like the mecha designs.
I’m slowly working my way through the Gundam anime. I’ve recently gotten back into Gundam when 00 was airing and then I watched through Mobile Suit Gundam, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I can see how MSG is so influential in the Real Robot movement in anime and manga.
I’m a little random in how I’m going through the Gundam fiction. I’m watching Turn A Gundam currently and I plan to go on to Zeta Gundam after.
I only saw a partial episode of Mobile Suit Gundam, can’t even remember what it was about.
I used to think that the UC timeline is the only way to go but after watching Gundam 00 I decided to give the other timelines a shot. So far I was impressed with Gundam Seed Destiny, can’t wait to see the others.
I come from a background where, like many mecha and anime/manga fans, I knew of Gundam and saw many of the MS designs but never watched an entire series of the anime or read the manga or light novels. I’ve watched bits of Gundam Wing and SEED. I watched an edited version of MS Gundam 0083 years ago. That’s it.
My uncle bought for me the 08th MS Team model kit set with the RX-79(G) and MS-06J Zaku II that was made in 1996. I was 11 at the time and put it together but then forgot about it until earlier this year. I’ve been looking at the various Gunpla sites and it was the re-discovery of the old model kit that motivated me to explore Gunpla.
This also sparked my interest in the Gundam fiction. I started with Gundam 00 because it was available being the most recent anime series. I then watched the original MS Gundam, which pleasantly surprised me. I knew it came out in 1979 and so I was expecting an older fashioned anime/cartoon like Gatchaman, which was a very “villain of the week” style of show. MSG really seems to be the grandfather of many of the mecha centric anime that came after it. At the same time, the show didn’t seem too tired or familiar. I went in with an open mind and thoroughly enjoyed the original series. I could see how many elements of MSG used in similar war story anime like Macross. I recommend MSG for sure.
I haven’t finished watching the 08th MS Team yet, got sleepy in the first few episodes. With Gundam Wing, I have to admit that I got turned off with the image of an actual bird like wing on a Gundam and this became a primary reason for me for not watching it…hehehe
Same reason why I also looked into the Gundam 00 was because it was the most recent Gundam series.
:D
By watching Gundam 00 first and then MSG, I found myself going “Aha! So that part in 00 was a nod to the original Gundam!” a lot, hehe.
I want to like Gundam Wing but I remember the character designs rubbing me the wrong way when I first saw the show years ago. I do like many of the MS designs, though.
Now that got me curious to watching the first Gundam anime all the more. I just enjoy trying to discover the homages made in an anime series.
