Farewell 2011

Its that time of the year again, where sitting at the cusp of the last day and the new year, bloggers everywhere think of something witty or insightful to post as they stand on the precipice of the end of the year.

I wanted to do a mecha related post but my heart was not into it. A lot of tragic things happened this year that affected the lives of a million or so people. In Asia we got assaulted by natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods and a tsunami. It was heart breaking to see all that death and destruction on the news.

My family was not spared as two relatives' houses were inundated by flood waters. Worse was when my uncle died a few weeks later because of the stress brought about by the flooding. And just when we were looking forward to the end of the year, we received news that the house of my grandmother burned down due to a fire that razed the entire neighborhood. Thankfully my grandmother was spared.

We could dwell on the negatives of the events but we prefer to reflect on the positives. The catastrophe helped make our family stronger, old disagreements were forgotten and ties were re-established as we all banded together to help one another. For the death of my uncle, we like to reflect on the fact that he died peacefully in his sleep and his family was already set up well as all his children had already finished University. He is finally free from having to undergo the trials and tribulations of this life. For the loss of the house of my grandparents, we finally were able to find a reason to convince our grandmother to stay in the house of our uncle so that she could be better taken care of. When you are well past 80 years old already its best to have somebody watching over you all the time.

Its kind of silly thinking that passing on to 2012 will get better, considering that the calendar is just a tool invented by man to attempt to maintain a semblance of order in his life. But the important thing is it gives us hope and a positive outlook that we will need to help us face what lies ahead.

As a Christian I Thank God that despite the tragedies that befell us there was always a way out and a ray of hope at the edge of the darkness. Life will always be full of trials and you will have to learn to take the good with the bad. The important thing is to pick yourself up and to never forget the lessons you learned from the trials you faced....and to have Faith.

I'd like to express my gratitude to all those who visited and supported this site. I'm so grateful to have a hobby that for a short while takes me away from the pressures of life and recharges me. It helps to keep me sane by trying to maintain a daily posting routine... hehehe

Let me end this post with this beautiful image from the Hubble Telescope of the Galaxy NGC 2841 which lies 46 million light-years away from us. I like looking at it because it kinda gives me a perspective of my place in the Universe and knowing that there is still a huge place out there waiting to be discovered and visited.
Farewell 2011

Here's wishing you and your family a Happy New Year and may 2012 bring you Health, Wealth, Happiness and Peace of Mind.
