Rain - Madonna

I suddenly remembered this video of the song Rain by Madonna. Aside from it being a great song I was really enthralled with the video because of its Japanese theme and setting. Ryuichi Sakamoto was even cast in the video as the director along with other asian faces.

Back then Japan was a mystical place for me where they made hi-tech stuff and had a load of great toys. Seeing this video for the first time I know touched a nerve about Japan once more.

In the early 90's, MTV was only starting its foray into Asia so I didn't really know what to think about it the first time I saw it in our local cable channel. I guess it was good for discovering great songs as an alternative to the regular programming that radio stations belted out.

The only time I could say that I really became interested in MTV and wanted to watch it regularly was when they started showing AEON FLUX and The Maxx as a string of shorts in Liquid Television

Speaking of The Maxx, only found out today that Julie from the Maxx is voiced by Starcraft, Sarah Kerrigan voice actor, Glynnis Campbell
